Jaipur – the pink city

The pink city on the eastern edge of the desert has a wonderful walled palace at it’s heart, painted dusty pink and providing the city its nick name. We stayed near the station in a hotel that was a little oasis, a place with a garden, with real grass, and tables, and a tree and everything! (Everything apart from a cool refreshing beer)

Whanganui Coast and Kai Iwi Beach

On the way up to Mount Taranaki we made a detour via Kai Iwi Beach and invented a new game – Poo Pumice. The idea is that it is like  Poo Sticks, but played with pumice from the beach. Drop the pumice into the river at the top of the beach, first pumice to the sea wins.

Wellington – the windy city

Wellington – What a pretty place. We made our home in Lower Hutt, the original settlement before the first inhabitants thought better of it and moved across the bay to Wellington. ( well actually, not the first inhabitants, the first european ones!).  Wellington surprised us, and our first foray to the top of the hill to the observatory was the start of a very pleasant couple of days.

Revenge of the Tree God

In retribution for the tree that Jo pushed over in Czech, the god of trees has taken retribution! The winds here in Colonia are pretty strong, 45km/h gusting to 60. I was inside when I heard this scraping and banging noise followed by a “Alan – Help”.
