Christchurch – City on the mend

We have friends in Christchurch, so as well as a chance to say hello, we also took a trip to the top of the volcano that looks over Christchurch. Passing through the city you can still see the devastation, and actually understand why large parts of the city centre (the whole main block of the central business district) are still closed.

San Juan shook us up a bit.

San Juan came as a pleasant surprise after the rough gruff town of Tucuman, having been destroyed in 1944 by a devastating earthquake that killed 10,000 people, the place was re-planned with wider streets, tree-lined avenues and an irrigation system that keeps the place clean and fresh – two unusual luxuries in Argentina.
