Mumbai – Full of puppies

The anticipation for Mumbai was intense – what would it be like, is it as noisy, and hardcore, as everyone seemed to suggest, how would we cope, how long before we got food poisoning??? All these things were racing through our minds as we landed in Mumbai Airport at the antisocial hour of 2am to the slightly sweet sour sulphurous smell that is big city India.

Oh so pretty – Hoi An

Hoi An is so pretty on the eye and easy on the tourist that it may not pose enough of a challenge for some. That said, with one of the highest densities of tailors anywhere in the world, shopping is a luxurious pleasure.

Mui Ne-ski

Mui Ne is the kite boarding capital of Vietnam and is home to one of it’s nicest beaches. It also boasts 363 days per year of wind, making the two flat calm days we were there a bit of a disappointment.

Koh Mak

We debated whether it would be a week in Cambodia, seeing Ankor Wat and learning  about the countries atrocities, or a week on a beach. Guess what won out. Well the next challenge was which island – so many to choose from.

Sydney – why is it not the capital?

After missing the fireworks, we were determined to make the most of Sydney, and just in the first afternoon we despatched the botanical gardens (after finding the oldest bridge in Australia, a whole 4 feet long!), the Opera House and the ferry to Manly. Only mistake – it was a bank holiday Monday and Manly was mental, with the beaches, streets, cafes and ferry all rammed.

New Year in Nelson Bay: “Sydney, watch out”

Originally we hoped to be in Sydney for the New Year – but given that accommodation costs the same as a small family car, an early decision was to bail out of the drama of Sydney and enjoy the more sedate fare of Nelson Bay.

Wooli (pronounced Wool – Eye)

Initially we were disappointed by Wooli; the ridiculous amount we had paid, combined with the “generous” photo’s on the web ( the owners are estate agents, what did we expect!), meant that we thought we were in some luxurious lodges for Christmas. Spider and ant infested cabins were more like the reality.
