Close Encounters of the Vulture kind

September 7, 2011 Leave a comment Go to comments

By way of an introduction, we had a lovely beach trip to Limares, an obligatory siesta, and in the early evening we went off for a walk around the hills on the opposite side of the valley to Spili. The route is a procession of pretty small white Greek Orthodox churches full of frescoes dating from the 14th century that mark the way to the monastery.

It was still hot as we trudged our way up the hill, and we obviously started to look a little worse for wear, because the vultures that started unexpectedly circling overhead clearly though that dinner was about to provide itself. Luckily, the delicious green figs saved us and we lived to see another day.
